Introduction

The role and importance of Renewable Energy Sources especially Solar Energy have been increasing significantly in recent times with the growing concern for the state and country's energy demand. Due to countries growth in infrastructure, developments, reducing availability and increasing prices of conventional energy sources have shifted focus on alternate energy sources, especially Solar Energy which is abundant across the country.

Solar energy is attracting attention in the research, industry, policy domain, and in academic institutions. Government of India is promoting solar PV systems and many institutions, companies and entrepreneurs have taken the initiative to start programs and businesses in Solar energy. Also, people in the country have started feeling the need for installing solar PV systems for their Agriculture, Domestic and Commercial usage.

The three day workshop, would provide the participants with the basic aspects of Solar PV Technology, AC/DC Smart MicroGrid, Solar Business areas and various Subsidy schemes. The participants would get an opportunity to visit the Solar Panel manufacturing unit and live demos of solar PV systems.

The duration of the workshop is for 3 days. It will begin at 9:00 am on Monday, 2nd March,2015, and end at 17:30 pm on Wednesday, 4th March,2015.

About the Department

The Department started in 1949 to offer B.E in Electrical Engineering. The Post-graduate course in Electrical Machines was started in 1966. With a view to provide diversity and industrial orientation to the Post Graduate program, the Department is offering M.E. courses in Industrial Drives & Control and Power Systems from 1971 and a new PG program in Power Electronic Systems from 2008. Department also offers part time PG courses in Industrial Drives & Control and Power Systems for the working academicians and engineers. The Full-Time and Part-Time Ph.D. programmes are being offered in the Department.

The Department has 23 faculty members who are highly experienced and actively involved in various research activities. The Department is also equipped with state-of-art equipment and well qualified technical staff.

 The First National Power System Conference was conducted by this Department in year 1981 and also the 16th National Power System Conference was organized in 2010. The Department celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in year 2009-2010. The department is accredited by NBA for 5 years for B.E program and M.E(PS) program for 3 years.

Eligibility

 This program is beneficial to all Students, Academicians, Senior / Top level Management Executives from O&M staff of Solar Power Plants, Captive Power Plants, Energy Managers / Energy Auditors, State & Central Govt. Dept’s State Nodal Agencies of BEE & Consultants, Manufacturers, Policy Makers.

 The registration fee is charged as below

Rs. 2000/- for Students (UG, PG & PhD)

Rs. 4000/- for Academic Faculty and

Rs. 6000/- for Industry, R& D Organizations.

The registration fees can be paid via DD/Multi city cheque in the name of “The Head, Department of Electrical Engineering, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana".

Boarding and Lodging

Boarding and lodging for the participants will be arranged in Hostels (subject to availability). However, lodging can also be arranged in Osmania University Guest House (subject to availability) on payment basis.
