There has been an exponential increase in health care costs in the last decade. Senior citizens have to make frequent visits to the hospitals to get their vital signs measured. There is a huge market for non-invasive methods of measurement of these vital signs. The objective of this project is to design and implement a reliable, cheap, low powered, non-intrusive, and accurate system that can be worn or used on a regular basis which monitors the patient and displays the output in LCD screen interfaced to a designed microcontroller. This data can be easily accessible by their guardian/physician through wireless GSM network.

This project specifically measures heart rate, and body temperature. Heart rate is calculated using transducer block which consist of pair of LED and LDR which works on the principle of light modulation by blood flow through finger at each pulse. Body temperature is measured using temperature sensor circuit which gives output voltage proportional to body temperature. These data are then sent to ADC which converts analog signal to digital form, and this information is also sent to the concerned medical advisory from time to time using AT-commands via GSM module. This also sends warning message if the heart rate and temperature exceeds the medical limits.

Some of the main application and advantages of this project is that it uses low power and is affordable for rural people, it is portable and easy to use. Mainly applicable in old age homes,rural hospitals etc.
